With the Simms Headwaters Day Pack, you can bring along all you’ll need for a day out on the water in a lightweight and compact package. The Center of Gravity Suspension system is a well-balanced and well-ventilated carriage, and a stowable, integrated rain fly, is a nice detail that you’ll no doubt be thankful for when the skies open up. The Headwaters day pack has a main spacious main compartment and a back panel that together off 30 liters of capacity, which means it will carry a shell, an extra layer, lunch, water and a few extra items just beautifully.

Leland on the Simms Headwaters Packs
The new Simms Headwaters Packs were designed by Simms’ own Mark
Terwilliger, formerly of backpack manufacturer Dana Design, and they
offer a host of new options for efficient gear management on the water.
Coming off the success of the dry bag-style Dry Creek line, Simms
approached the design of a more versatile line of packs with a full
head of steam. The Headwaters backpacks feature rain flies and stowable
rod-carrying options, and the waist and chest tackle packs have
multiple, well-thought-out ways for organizing all you need to fish
effectively. Throughout the line, great attention has been placed on
maintaining a no frills aesthetic – as a result, needless bells and
whistles that snag line or fly are nowhere to be found. These designs
are both smart and handsome: an understated dark brown is complemented
by a trim of well-loved Simms orange. The unobtrusive look is a nod to
tradition, for sure, but it stays true to the technical aesthetic for
which Simms has become known. The Leland Team was blown away by the
Headwaters Packs at the Industry Show in September, and we think they
could be the hottest new products from Simms for 2009!

Simms on Conservation
“IF YOU COULD PASS JUST ONE THING DOWN TO YOUR KIDS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?”
“Fishing is dependent on clean water, healthy ecosystems and just as important,
people who care about conservation and resource preservation. It is the
responsibility of everyone who enjoys angling to help protect and
enhance our fresh and saltwater fisheries. After all, what greater
inheritance would we leave future generations?
Supporting
local, regional, and national conservation organizations is certainly
an important role that angles can play in caring for our fishing
resources. However, one area of vital concern, and one that all anglers
can easily help do something about, is the spread of aquatic invasive
species. These “hitchhikers”, including New Zealand mud snails, Didymo
and whirling disease are having an enormous effect on rivers across the
United States and are directly linked to reduced trout populations.
Unfortunately, anglers are part of the problem, given that invasive
species are spread by “hitchhiking” on waders, wading boots, drift
boats, trailers and other gear.
YOU CAN HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES IN THREE EASY STEPS:
1)
Thoroughly rinse all fishing gear -including waders, boots, boats, and
boat trailers- in clean freshwater upon leaving a water source. Never
travel from one river to another without clean gear.
2) Air-dry gear before moving to another body of water.
