You’ve traveled a long way to wade this saltwater flat. Your practiced casts are shooting the tightest loops of your life and as your sling shot of line unravels and gently drops your Crazy Charlie in the path of a hungry bonefish. A couple of strips later, your heart rate struggles to catch up with your fly line as the ghost of the flats makes its first long run…

Flash material is designed for times when tyers want to “kick it up a notch.” It is available in many colors and reflective grades. Tying some flashabou or other Mylar reflective material to a fly will increase its attractive quality and draw the interest of more fish, especially in low light situations and darker, deeper, murkier water. It is more common to find flash and reflective material in nymph patterns and recipes, but it can also be a useful highlight to the wings of a dry fly, especially in the extra-fine diameters.

Crystal Splash
The artful incorporation of flashy material is extremely important when tying artificial flies. Fish are often keenly aware of glittery, flashy objects and this is no secret to fly anglers and fly tyers. This doesn’t mean, however, that tossing a bound wad of shredded tinfoil into your favorite pool or into the skinny water of that picturesque saltwater flat will turn up the results you’re after! Spirit River’s Crystal Splash is easy to manipulate and will add just enough subtle flash and pearly sheen to your flies to have those wily fish lining up for your offering. Tie in some of this excellent material and get ready to hear your reel scream!

Gliss 'N Glow
Adding flash material to a fly pattern is an art. Flash should be carefully included in the bodies of baitfish and saltwater streamer patterns. Spirit River’s Gliss ’N Glow is an excellent choice for adding colorful flash to your fly patterns. Use this material in everything from classic Clouser Minnows to more creative striped bass and tarpon flies. Nothing makes a well-fished and stripped streamer scream like Spirit River’s Gliss ’N Glow!

Holographic Mylar Motion
Holographs aren’t just for baseball cards and stickers anymore! Get your hands on some Spirit River Holographic Mylar Motion and tie some streamer patterns with subtle flash, color, and dimension. This synthetic Mylar flash material for fly tying has soft fibers that are easy to work with and highly attractive to fish. This innovative material is designed specially for use in artificial fly patterns that require just a dash of subdued sparkle and flash. Holographic Mylar Motion isn’t just for streamers though. Be sure to try it out in Spey, salmon, steelhead, and bass fly recipes as well.

Metallic Mylar Motion
Spirit River is the leader in Mylar flash products for fly tying applications. Metallic Mylar Motion is simply a tremendous material that will attract fish from Christmas Island to Baja. The metallic finish on this material is punchy, and in this case an old adage rings clear: “a little will go a long way.” Tie this synthetic fly tying material into your favorite streamer patterns that call for a dash of flash. Your large Pacific billfish patterns will never be more productive! This ain’t no fool’s gold – Spirit River’s Metallic Mylar Motion is the genuine article!

Mylar Mirror
For the punchiest baitfish and streamer imitations, look no further than Spirit River’s Mylar Mirror Flash. This durable fly tying material is made of long strands of Mylar specially developed to be the industry leader in brilliant, reflective qualities. Use just a few strands in your favorite Whistler and other baitfish patterns to create depth, dimension, contrast, flash, and movement – these elements are extremely important when fishing subsurface fly patterns. This synthetic fly tying flash material is perfect for low visibility water conditions. Just be careful not to use too much of this ultra shiny material – it’s brilliance is blinding.

Pearlescent Fly Flash
When water conditions are clear and still, fishing a streamer with too much flash material can actually spook already wary fish. In this type of water, be sure to try out a fly that incorporates Spirit River’s Pearlescent Fly Flash. This innovative material is colored like other Mylar flash products, but is translucent, giving it a softer, more subtle appearance. In fact, when light passes through this fly tying flash material, it actually gives the fly a soft glowing effect! We’re sure you (and the fish you’re after) will love it!
