As with so many other manufacturers, Loon was born from a necessity for better fly fishing equipment. Dan Paradis, an avid fly fisherman and talented chemist, knew he could make and develop better fly and leader amendments that were actually environmental friendly, to boot.

Dan started tinkering with a basic piece of fishing equipment, the sinker, and developed Deep Soft Weight, a lead-free, non-toxic weight in putty form as an alternative to split shot. It was an immediate hit with anglers from coast to coast. In 1993, he developed and patented Biostrike, a reusable, biodegradable strike indicator putty. Again, users raved about the product. Two years later, he developed Hard Head fly finishes, a line of colorful, water-based head and body paints for fly tiers irritated by solvents. Another winner with both users and the industry Hard Head received a Top Ten award at the International Fly Tackle Dealers show. In 1997 he developed a revolutionary award winning Sun Set Super Patch, a sunlight curing polyurethane polymer that cures in seconds.
