Cold, windy and rainy weather can ruin anyone's day. There's no reason to travel hundreds of miles, or even just a few blocks, to go fishing if you go unprepared! You 
might as well stay at home. With today's modern waterproof/breathable materials, there's no reason to end up wet, either from rain OR perspiration! Today's thinking in warmth and protection involves moisture management by using a layered clothing system. You simply add or remove these layers to maintain your all-day comfort zone. The outerlayer, your rain jacket, must, obviously, be waterproof and windproof. But also, it must be breathable in order to get rid of moisture that can accumulate inside. It must be designed for active movement. And finally, its features must be fully functional in a fast water 
environment. You really don't want to wear something that allows water to run down your sleeve, nor do you want to unzip in a downpour to get at your fly box.
Wearing the right apparel while you're out on the water can make the difference between a good day and bad day. By wearing the proper clothes, you can concentrate on fishing, not the cold and rain.
