Leland on the Simms SunGloves:

There's nothing worse than trying to tie knots with sunscreen all over your hands (or, even worse, in your eyes). Now, with the Simms SunGloves, this needless irritation is a thing of the past! These lightweight, second-set-of skin sungloves protect like no other. As plenty of saltwater hounds know, a whole trip can be ruined from just one day of lax coverage.

Leland on Specifications:

The Simms SunGloves offer great fit thanks to a thoughtful cut and 4-way stretch fabric. The palm is left open to keep you fully in touch with your rod, reel, line, and whatever's happening at the other end. Built of lightweight, breathable, SPF 50 sun protective fabric, these low profile gloves offer anglers the protection needed for long days in dazzling settings. Covering up fully not only saves your energy and keeps you sharp, but is the best way to reduce the risk of skin cancer. (What's more, fish like permit will smell something amiss if you've tied on a fly with sunscreen-ed hands.) As they fit easily in a shirt pocket, you've got no excuse for not taking the SunGloves on your next flats trip.

Specifications:

  • SPF 50 sun protection for UV protection
  • Multi-seam patterning for a perfect fit
  • 4-way stretch breathable fabric for non-binding fit
  • Full wrist and hand coverage with an open palm for rod handling
  • Approximate Weight: 1 oz
  • Color: Seagrass
  • Sizes: S, M, L, XL

Leland on Fly Fishing Gloves:

In fly fishing, finger control is everything. Remember when fly fishing you lose 50% of your warmth and gain 50% of summer heat through your head and fingers! Okay maybe not 50% but you understand, your head, hands and fingers control the majority of your temperature gain and loss. If you don't have on the right gloves for the right occasion the results can be quickly end your day or even worse... Whether it is the potential cancer causing UV rays or the frostbite cold you need the right glove for the right occasion. We have weeded through the collection of gloves that are out there and narrowed it down to select few that we know works. We know they work because these are what we wear when we go fly fishing.

Wearing the right apparel while you're out on the water can make the difference between a good day and a bad day.  By wearing the proper clothes and you can concentrate on fishing, not the cold, wind, rain or sun!! At Leland, we know how important selecting the right apparel can be, we have fished all over the world and in almost all weather conditions.  Our advice: buy the right clothes before you go on that trip, have it when you need it!  Fly fishing clothes are designed to make your over all experience not only more comfortable but safer as well.  Whether your going to Belize, British Columbia, or your local river bring the right gear. Your fishing experience will be more enjoyable!

Leland on Simms Fishing Products

It’s funny how childhood memories can influenceone's life! Just ask K.C. Walsh of Simms Fishing Products about theunderlying theme of his company and its location. He'll tell you it wasbecause his grandfather took him fly fishing in Bozeman, MT as a youngman. Funny how what started as a desire by K.C. to work in the flyfishing industry, turned into the design of the world's best fishingwaders. Funny how that vision of wader design transformed a companyinto one that now manufacturers what is considered by many to be thefinest collection of fly fishing –outdoor wear in the entire industry.Funny? Not really. Just great concepts and a lot of hard work: Welcometo Simms Fishing Products!

At Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters,we carry and use only the best fly fishing gear. There’s not enoughtime in our hurried world to worry about whether our chest waders orrain jackets are going to leak. We talk with K.C. quite frequently andlove to listen about his passion for developing the most useful andhighest quality fly fishing gear. We at Leland have toured the Simmsfactory, attended their numerous product seminars, and vigorously usedand field tested their equipment and we can tell you flat out; K.C. isdoing it right!

Review of Simms Sungloves by Leland's Alex Cref

The Simms SunGloves saved my trip on north India's Saryu River. On a hot, sunny day we travelled to the stream in an open air jeep, and while winding our way along mountain roads for seven hours (and gripping the jeep's roll bar) my once-white knuckles turned a cherry red. Before I even got my feet wet, I had sustained a bad sunburn over the back of my right hand and lower forearm. It was severe enough (you know the kind) that I wouldn't have trusted sunscreen alone, even those new SPF 50+ lotions, to keep it from getting worse. Fortunately, I had brought Simms SunGloves to this sunny climate (they'd been deep in my dry bag during the drive), and I wore them whenever the sun was in the sky for the rest of the trip. I don't know what I would have done otherwise. Never during that time did I feel encumbered by wearing the SunGloves - whether casting, tying knots, or fumbling around in my bag. Several times I found myself arriving back to camp at night time, after fishing through dusk, still wearing them. Having not been re-burned, on day 9, the affected area began to peel. Next time I'm headed to a fishing destination, the Simms SunGloves are going toward the top of my bag, or, better yet, in my pocket.

“The thrill of discovering a pristine stream after a long hike into the backcountry, the exhilarations of being on the flats on one of those incrediblyclear days, the rush of a crisp morning on a British Columbia riverwhen the steelies are running, these are the memories that keep ustying through the dark winter months, and always find us plotting ournext angling season or weekend.

Simms on Conservation:

“IF YOU COULD PASS JUST ONE THING DOWN TO YOUR KIDS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?”
“Fishing is dependent on clean water, healthy ecosystems and just as important, people who care about conservation and resource preservation. It is theresponsibility of everyone who enjoys angling to help protect andenhance our fresh and saltwater fisheries. After all, what greaterinheritance would we leave future generations?

Supportinglocal, regional, and national conservation organizations is certainlyan important role that angles can play in caring for our fishingresources. However, one area of vital concern, and one that all anglerscan easily help do something about, is the spread of aquatic invasivespecies. These “hitchhikers”, including New Zealand mud snails, Didymoand whirling disease are having an enormous effect on rivers across theUnited States and are directly linked to reduced trout populations.Unfortunately, anglers are part of the problem, given that invasivespecies are spread by “hitchhiking” on waders, wading boots, driftboats, trailers and other gear.

YOU CAN HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES IN THREE EASY STEPS:

1)Thoroughly rinse all fishing gear -including waders, boots, boats, andboat trailers- in clean freshwater upon leaving a water source. Nevertravel from one river to another without clean gear.
2) Air-dry gear before moving to another body of water.
3) Tell other anglers about this problem and what they can do to help.”
