Updated: 08/06/2007

The Guys at Sac River Outfitters report "same as last time just a little later, dodge the heat! The fishing on the Upper Sac has been good, and with 4,000 to 5,000 fish per mile, why shouldn't it? Anglers have seen good numbers of fish nymphing the pocket water during the day with mayfly, caddis, and stonefly patterns. The evenings should be spent throwing dries to rising fish in the tailouts and seams."

Upper Merced River

Updated: 08/23/2007

Tim Hutchins reports "The Merced is currently at 26cfs which is the lowest I have seen it in 25 years.  Trout fishing isn't really a very good idea until water temps cool off in a few weeks.  High country streams are also very low but fishable with a combination of stealth and very small flies.  Terrestrials and caddis #18-20 will take fish during the day if they don't see you first.

Smallmouth bass fishing is as good as it gets.  The warm water temps have the fish being very aggressive and the bite is on all day long.  Fish below the south fork using sinking lines and just about any streamer or crayfish pattern around the rocks and you will find fish

The tailwater section on the Tuolumne will stabilize with flows of 750cfs afte the first week of September making for productive trout fishing on this remote big river."

 Flows are dangerously low.

Wet Flies:
#18-20 Zebra Midge (blk), #16-20 Micro May, #18-20 Mighty May, Princes, P.T's, and Poxyback Golden Stones

Truckee River

Updated: 08/27/2007

Matt Koles of Gilligan Guide Service reports the following:

Truckee River:

"The Truckee has held up well all summer with descent flows and dependable hatches, and on top of that it's HOPPER TIME. Recent cool weather has improved the fishing. Nymph the fast water in the morning with a golden stone, and caddis pupa dropper, or micro mayfly, throw streamers in low light periods. Fish a hopper dropper rig along the banks all day. The crayfish have started there molt, start dead drifting crayfish patterns in deeper holes!"

Little Truckee River:
"There is a descent pmd hatch mid day, though not dependable. Walk the banks until you see rising fish. Some tricos have started, and look for fish sipping midges early morning. Don't even waste your time nymphing as the water is low."
