Patagonia River Crampon

Available Spring 2012... PRE ORDER ONLY.
The Patagonia River Crampon is inspired by the mountaineering crampon, developed by Yvon Chouinard and tested around the world in many of the toughest wading conditions. The performance is derived from soft, malleable aluminum bars which are riveted to a burly, stainless steel adjustable frame with highly corrosion resistant brass rivets. The soft aluminum of the Patagonia River Crampon cuts through weeds and moss on the slickest of river bottoms and grips rock like no other traction device. The Patagonia River Crampon can be used with most wading boots on the market. In short, our new Crampon and Boot provide the finest traction in the most diverse and challenging wading conditions – bar none.

Patagonia Founder and innovator Yvon Couinard on the Patagonia River Crampon:
“In late summer 2010 in the same blacksmith shop where we revolutionized the ice crampon for mountaineering, I assembled the first prototype of the Patagonia River Crampon and cobbled together a pair of boots with aluminum bars... The boot and crampon have been heavily tested over the last year... Everyone involved in the testing agreed that they would never go back to studs or felt soles, as the aluminum bars offer a level of security that can not be matched.”Patent pending in the USA

Specifications:

  • Hard-biting aluminum bars grip through slime and onto river bottoms
  • Noncorrosive materials ideally suited for both Fresh and Saltwater
  • Tool-less adjustment system adapts to any wading boot effortlessly
  • Harness system allows easy removal for boat entry or long hikes

“I have over 100 days on the water testing Patagonia’s new Aluminum Bar technology, fishing in some of the most difficult wading in the lower 48 like the Bear Trap Canyon of the Madison and Box Canyon of the Henry’s Fork...I can honestly say that this represents a breakthrough in wading technology. I have been able to wade safely and confidently to areas on the river that I had not previously been able to reach in my 30 years of fishing these home waters. This technology is a game changer.”
-Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies and Patagonia ambassador on the Patagonia Rock Grip Aluminum Bar Boot
