ROCKIES
Broad boisterous freestones, banks of tall green grass, split rail fences and towering cumulus, dry flies and drift boats.
The Rocky Mountains. This is the holy-land of American angling, the Mecca that all serious fly fishers must visit to
consider themselves true disciples of the sport. Not to fish the waters of the American West is sinning by omission.
The canon of great western rivers is deep and enduring. The rivers Madison, Yellowstone, Henry's Fork, and Gunnison, are too fine and too near to ignore. Their challenges have formed and refined our sport, and touched the souls of those who have waded their waters. You should be one of those so changed...
A float through the steep walled Gunnison Gorge is recognized as one of the top fly-fishing trips in the lower 48. This wilderness area features spectacular scenery, sightings of varied wildlife, and most importantly excellent fly-fishing for Rainbow and Brown trout. Catch rates for each boat range from 10-25 fish per day that range from 10-18 inches. Fish of 20 plus inches are considered trophies and are landed on most multi-day trips. The BLM regulates this resource to allow only two commercial launches per day with a maximum of 8 guests and 4 guides per trip. You are assured solitude along with the ambience of streamside camping and gourmet cooking on the unparalleled wilderness fishing adventure...
Crane Meadow Lodge is located just outside of Twin Bridges Montana. It is ideally situated at the edge of an 8000-acre ranch on the lower Ruby river. On my way to visit the lodge for the first time last summer I remember my excitement to see the lodge and fish the its fabled waters of the Beaverhead, Big Hole and the Jefferson. As expected neither let met me down. The lodge is classic comfortable Montana...
Imagine if you will a vast, crystal clear spring creek where the wild rainbows can be as easy or as challenging as you like. Then imagine fifty miles of such a river with countless water types, prolific hatches and entire floats that rarely see anglers. And lastly imagine an elegant and understated lodge on a wooded bluff overlooking it all. That is Henry's Fork Lodge, one of the Rockies premier destinations for over twelve years. Additionally, Henry's Fork Lodge is ideally situated to fish the other great waters of the area including the Madison, Yellowstone, Firehole, Gibbon, Gallatin, Slough Creek...
Many anglers consider the South Fork of the Snake to be the country's premier dry fly fishing river. On normal years, anglers can expect to fish with a dry fly 95% of the time. Because of the high fish counts and the abundance of hatches, the South Fork is an excellent system for both novice and experienced anglers. The majority of the fishing is done from drift boats in the early season, and wading selected riffles becomes more common as water levels drop in the fall. Angler can expect to catch good numbers of rainbows, cutthroats and browns in the 10-19 inch range.
Situated in the high mountain aspens, Three Forks Ranch straddles the Wyoming Colorado border. This 200,000-acre working cattle ranch is one of the premier fishing destinations in the West. Mountain streams and springs breathe life into the Little Snake River right inside the gate of the Colorado headquarters. The headwaters of this river are home to countless rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout. This fishery has been the beneficiary of the largest privately funded river restoration project in the history of America. Once a drying giant, new life has been given to the Little Snake River. 16 miles of the river has been restored to what Mother Nature may have wished it 150 years ago and 30 oxbow lakes now dot the property, all connected to the river by reopened river channels and all home to wonderful, fighting trout.
