Series Overview
The Red Truck Premium Series represents our taking aim at the absolute best fly rods on the market, and working to surpass them. These are performance rods for discerning anglers who seek out the best in every industry.
In a line-up that mirrors our Diesel Series, the Premium Collection features
a five weight and
an eight weight, both nine feet in length, and
three seven weights at 10’, 11’, and 13’6” in length. All four-piece rods, they offer the same brilliant fishability as the Diesel Series, but feature
faster, lighter blanks and finer appointments.

True-Progressive Action
Red Truck Premium rods cast exceptionally well because they have a
modern, truly progressive action. This means they steadily load more
deeply toward the butt of the rod, depending on how much line you are
carrying with your cast. Unlike many rods, which may have a sweet spot
with say, twenty five or fifty five feet of fly line out the tip,
Red
Truck Premium Rods load equally well on casts of any length. The
upshot? With a modern, compact casting stroke,
you can stably load the
rod and form loops on every cast you’ll make in a day of fishing.
To make the Red Truck Premium Series, we went through rounds and rounds
of blanks before arriving at the ones that respond as we want. It’s
easy to make a blank ultra-fast, but have it cast poorly. By the same
token, a rod can be made lighter and lighter, but many times, the
action and stability are compromised in the process. These were some of the challenges we overcame with the Premium Series.

The Finest Components
Balancing durability and performance,
each finished rod weighs exactly
what we feel it should. As it happens,
they are some of the lightest
fly rods ever made. Recognizing the caliber of these
high-modulus
blanks, we’ve elected to go the distance and fit them with the absolute
finest components available:
REC recoil titanium ‘memory metal’ snake
guides and
American Tackle titanium stripping guides are practically
indestructible and contribute to each rod’s featherlike swing weight
and crisp action. The
Nanolite hoops on the stripping guides are an
advanced unscratchable ceramic – built to withstand searing gelspun
payouts – that has an
extremely low coefficient of friction, enabling
the longest line shoots.
Premium handles are all made from AAAA cork rings, with each model
featuring an updated grip that we’ve designed to accommodate optimal
hand placement.
All hardware is gold-anodized, machined aluminum: the
double-uplocking recessed reel seat, as well as the
seamless winding
check – one of the finer details frequently forgotten in today’s fly
rod industry. Rounding out every rod’s grip is a
woven carbon fiber
spacer, lightweight and rigid, that provides stable anchorage for a
reel foot. Each rod also features a
measuring wrap appropriate to the
species that it has been designed to pursue. In the larger line
weights, you’ll notice a
heavy-duty EVA foam butt cap which has been
laser etched with our logo.
Sleek Ferrules
We’ve spent substantial effort
dialing in the ferrule technology
featured in the Red Truck Premium Series. Our engineered junctions
provide
four-piece portability with unprecedented power and
responsiveness, and they allow us to guarantee the fit of supplementary
or replacement rod sections.
Matched Rod Tubes
Red Truck Premium fly rods are housed in elegant rod tubes built of the
same carbon fiber as our reel seat inserts, and capped by the same
gold-anodized aluminum as you’ll find in each rod’s hardware.
Our
all-cotton rod socks contain not four, but five, section sleeves,
enabling you to convey a spare tip to remote locales – in case the
unexpected happens to the most delicate rod section, you’re still
fishing. As with our Diesel Series,
Premium rods pack a surprise in the
rod tube: our patented Brews-Key bottle opener is always close at hand,
for those times when you need to celebrate a day on the water.
Simply put,
Premium rods are built to be the best.
We’ve taken truly miraculous blanks and given them the finest
appointments you can find. If you’re looking for a series of rods that
combines
rigorous design and thoughtful aesthetics to give you
towering casting performance and
unrivaled fishability, this is it: The Premium Series from Red Truck.

PRO REVIEW – DOUG DeROY
What's the word. . .
The new Red Truck Premium Series rods have been introduced as the
suped-up, “high-octane” versions of their respective models in the
Diesel Series. Offered in the same quiver as the Diesel Series – a 5
weight and 8 weight, both 9’ in length, and three 7 weights in 10’,
11’, and 13’6” lengths – the Premium Series rods are lighter, faster,
and more finely dressed than their Diesel cousins. By integrating the
highest quality materials and components into a package that is also
very easy-on-the-eye, while still maintaining the same great
fishability and progressive action as the Diesel Series, this new
series of rods from Red Truck truly lives up to its name: Premium.
Features. . .
The Red Truck Premium Series offers a number of upgrades over the
Diesel rods. With 100% high-modulus blanks, woven carbon reel seat
spacers, and titanium snake and stripping guides, the Premium Series
rods deliver crisper casting performance and are up to three fourths of
an ounce lighter than their Diesel counterparts.
The AAAA grade cork handles are ergonomically shaped to keep hands
comfortably placed in the proper positions, and precision-engineered
ferrules on these four-piece rods allow for smooth energy transfer from
butt to tip.
The performance and aesthetic benefits of these top-shelf materials and
components are great, but what is, perhaps, more impressive is that
these Premium rods provide the same intuitive, true-progressive action
and stability through the casting stroke that we have grown to love
about the Diesel rods.
Action. . .
In their never-ending quest to design the fastest and lightest fly rod,
many companies have neglected the intricacies of rod action design –
Red Truck is not one of those companies.
The Red Truck Premium Rods feature a fast, modern, truly progressive
action. This means that, from your shortest cast to your longest, the
rod will load predictably in proportion to the amount of line you have
in the air at each stroke. This true-progressive action means that
anyone, with a casting stroke aimed at today’s high-performance,
fast-action rods, will be able to consistently form stable, tight loops
at whatever distances the conditions call for in a day’s fishing.
Materials. . .
Red Truck Premium Series rods sport a top-shelf list of materials.
From the high-modulus blanks, to the REC Black Ion Titanium snake
guides and American Tackle Titanium stripping guides, to the
gold-anodized aluminum reel seat with woven carbon spacer, this Premium
Series leaves little to be desired.
Fit and Finish. . .
• High-modulus graphite construction
• Lightweight, but also smooth, stable, and responsive
• Gold anodized aluminum reel seat with woven carbon fiber spacer
• REC Recoil titanium snake guides and American Tackle titanium stripping guides
• Ultra-ergonomic handle spun from top quality AAAA grade cork rings
• Matching carbon fiber rod tube capped with gold-anodized aluminum
• Limited lifetime warranty
Reliability and Durability. . .
Red Truck designs rods to last a lifetime of fishing, and the new
Premium Series is no exception. In order to back up this promise, each
rod comes with a limited Lifetime Warranty. Basically, if your Red
Truck rod breaks at any point during its usable fly fishing life do to
a manufacturing defect, they will replace the broken section or make an
appropriate replacement, free of charge.
Unlike most other companies, however, Red Truck does not build the
additional cost of people abusing their fly rods into the sticker price
on their rods. So, if you break your Red Truck rod in a car door, or
your dog mistakes the cork for a chew toy, they ask that you pay a
nominal fee, which they will use to promptly replace the broken section
at no profit.
Overall Rating. . .
PROS – Built with the highest quality materials and components,
the Premium Series rods also possess a truly progressive action that
offers unmatched fishability, and a classy aesthetic to back it all up.
CONS – With a sticker price considerably lower than comparable
rods from other manufacturers, some people may think the Premium Series
rods are missing something – and those people would be wrong.
BOTTOM LINE – These rods are serious weapons. If you’re looking
for a series of rods that combines the highest quality components,
rigorous design, and thoughtful aesthetic to bring you superior
performance and fishability – this is it: The Premium Series from Red
Truck.
Reviewer. . .
I live in the San Francisco bay area, CA, where I’ve been feeding a
heavy addiction to fly fishing for the last 7 years. I’ve been
fortunate enough to have the opportunity to fish in places like Cuba,
Brazil, New Zealand, Costa Rica, and British Columbia, but, to me, the
ultimate experience is still catching a wild fish in a river closer to
home. When it comes to fly rods, I like fishing with rods that don’t
just cast and fish well, but also come from companies that I can
identify with and believe in. For me, Red Truck definitely passes both
of these tests. Read up on Red Truck, pick up a Diesel or Premium
Series rod, and see for youself.
