BLACK CADDIS

One clever ad-lib on Al Troth's original design is the Peacock Caddis Black Caddis, an imitation of an emergent Black Caddis. This effective fly pattern is tied with the same light and durable elk hair wing, but its body is wrapped with attractive iridescent peacock herl, a tantalizing treat for hungry trout.

With its long dual antennae, stiff forward hackle, and cleverly trimmed hair wing and body, the Goddard Caddis - Black Caddis sits low in both fast and slow water and is an excellent stand-in for a real Black Caddis emerger.

This fly combines the lightness of a synthetic fiber wing with the sheen of a pearl tinsel body. Don't worry though, natural hackle fibers give it a classic leggy-ness trout can't resist.

OLIVE CADDIS

Goddard Caddis Olive Caddis

Goddard's Caddis is a simple, yet durable and attractive fly pattern. It uses stiff, highly buoyant materials and packs a mean punch of realism that trout can't ignore. With its long dual antennae, stiff forward hackle, and cleverly trimmed hair wing and body, the Goddard Caddis - Olive Caddis sits low both fast and slow water and is an excellent stand-in for a real Olive Caddis emerger. You may love or hate Margaret Thatcher, but there's no flip-flopping on the Goddard Caddis!

Spotlight Caddis Emerger Olive Caddis

This fly is similar to the caddis emergers of the past; it sports a long, trailing shuck of sparkly Antron fibers and a highly visible posted wing of stiff fly tying hair. However, its bent profile and finely tapered thorax make this fly appear quite vulnerable in the drift. Its clever design also offers it a lightness and shape that allow it to ride very high in the surface film – like an authentic emergent insect! Umpqua’s Spotlight Caddis Emerger – Olive Caddis is hand tied from the very best fly tying materials to match the rich colors and hues of a real Olive Caddis, and it’s as ready as you are to catch big trout!

Cutter's E/C Caddis Olive Caddis

Cutter's E/C Caddis Tan Caddis

One of the legendary fly fishers and fly tyers in the Sierra is Ralph Cutter, and his E/C Caddis, originally introduced in 1981, has become one of the world's most effective caddis emerger imitations ever tied. Cutter modeled the fly after the classic Elk Hair Caddis, but designed it to sit lower in the surface film by including a parachute style wing post. This fly works like a charm from Hot Creek to Patagonia and properly prepared anglers always carry a few in their fly box.
